## Questions & Answers

**Q: How does the ti-30xs compare to the ti-30xIIs?**
A: The TI-30XS does NOT reliably handle order of operations correctly. I am a science teacher, and I would NOT recommend this calculator for any class that deals with large or small numbers. Every other scientific calculator I have seen in the past 15 years handles scientific notation correctly. Choose any of them...but NOT this one.

**Q: Is this calculator suitable for a course in calculus-based Probability and Statistics?**
A: I needed a graphing calculator when I took it. One of the few classes I used it in.

**Q: Am I overlooking the EE button on this calculator or does it have an equivalent? I've tried everything on here and my answers keep coming out wrong.**
A: It has a somewhat-but-not-quite equivalent button, the ×10^n key, located in the 3rd column 3rd row. The difference is that a scientific calculator with a true EE key will treat an entry such as 7.2E5 as a single number, namely 7,200,000. The MultiView will treat 7.2×10^5 as two numbers, 7.2 times 100,000 (correctly, in the mathematical sense). For example, 7.2E5 divided by 0.9E3 equals 8E2 mathematically (i.e. 800). On a dedicated scientific calculator...Required key entries: 7 . 2 EE 5 ÷ 0 . 9 EE 3 enter # of key entries: 12Scientific mode answer: 8E2Normal mode answer: 800On the MultiView, 7.2 × 10^5 ÷ 0.9 × 10^3 will produce an answer of 8×10^8, which is correct mathematically because of the order of operations but not at all what one would expect with a true EE key. MultiView key entries: 7 . 2 ×10^n 8 right arrow ÷ 0 . 9 ×10^n 3 enter# of key entries: 13Scientific mode answer: 8×10^8 Normal mode answer: 800,000,000... which is not what we want. Here's my workaround to simulate the EE key.MultiView key entries: n/d 7 . 2 ×10^n 8 down arrow 0 . 9 ×10^n 3 enter# of key entries: 13Scientific mode answer: 8×10^2Normal mode answer: 800I hope this was helpful. I know it's somewhat frustrating until you remember to set up the fraction with the n/d key first (which stands for "numerator/denominator"), located next to the ×10^n key.

**Q: Is this calculator allowed for actuarial (SOA/CAS) exams?**
A: Hi,yes.According to this website.https://www.soa.org/education/exam-req/exam-day-info/edu-calculators.aspxUse of Calculators and Other Assistance in Writing Examinations Approved Calculators Only the calculators described in the following paragraphs may be brought into the examination room. Books, papers, computers or other electronic devices may not be brought into the examination room. Candidates may ONLY use the battery or solar-powered Texas Instruments BA-35 model calculator, the BA II Plus*, the BA II Plus Professional*, the TI-30Xa or TI-30X II* (IIS solar or IIB battery), or TI-30X MultiView (XS Solar or XB Battery). Candidates may use more than one of the approved calculators during an examination. Using a calculator that is not on this list will result in the disqualification of the exam.	The same calculator models are approved for use on the joint SOA/CAS examinations as well as the SOA examinations. For the Enrolled Actuaries (EA) examinations, candidates may use any model that meets the specifications of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. Specifications are listed in the Joint Board's Examination Program. All of the approved SOA models meet the specifications of the Joint Board. Calculator instructions may not be brought into the examination room. During the examination, the calculator must be removed from its carrying case so the supervisor can confirm it is an approved model. Candidates using a calculator other than the approved models will have their examination disqualified, which means the examination will not be graded. Candidates are responsible for providing their own calculators. Some of the book distributors listed sell them or Texas Instruments can be contacted directly at Epsstore.ti.com. * The memory of TI-30X II (IIS solar or IIB battery), TI-30X MultiView (XS Solar or XB Battery), BA II Plus and BA II Plus Professional will need to be cleared by the examination supervisor upon the candidates' entrance to the examination room. For the BA II Plus and BA II Plus Professional, clearing will reset the calculator to the factory default settings. I hope this answers you question.Thank you for the interest.
