The second I did a bit of digging around until I found very small gravel, similar to the kind they use in aquariums, and filled it up just a bit less. Both times the bag held up for about a year and a half, BUT I did keep my bag outside attached to a large tree. The wear of outdoors gets to them quick, and also beware of cats. Mine went nuts and were always clinging to it. I'd say it's a good investment, but unless you have already acquired some skill with a stationary "ground" bag with gravel or steel shot. If not, fill it slowly and strike with caution. Start slow and slowly increase power (like over months) and fill slowly (also over months). And if you keep it outside or at a place people can walk by and strike it, PUT UP A WARNING SIGN. I had a bunch of neighbor kids that lived around me at the time, and they thought they'd come punch my bag. It didn't end well, obviously. Someone with no prior conditioning can really hurt themselves on accident. Also nab some dit da jow, it's not really necessary for a normal heavy bag, but it's pretty necessary if you're upping to gravel or shot. Use it before and after. Train safe! "Here for a strong time, not a long time!" **Q: I have 3 boys ages 6, 8 & 9 and this appears to be perfect for beginners....what sort of mounting system comes with it? Any?** A: It is a great punchbag - both my 8 yr old son and I use it. It comes with three chains attached to a swivel ring as shown in the picture, but no other mounting hardware **Q: Does it come filled up or do I have to buy sand and fill it up my self?** A: It does NOT come filled. You can purchase sand or fill with old clothes etc... depends on who will use it. Very thick and sturdy. Comes with chains etc but I bought a tough ceiling bracket. Would recommend as a different form of cardio. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you plan ahead, this bag is a good buy! *by S***K on November 9, 2014* Buyers' Notes: •Size is good for those only concerned with boxing. •Seems to be made of good canvas and stitching. •Dimensions (bag only from seam to seam): 11 inches (diameter), 31 inches (height). •Chain Length (effective, when hung): 16½ - 17 inches •Volume: ≈ 1.7 cubic inches Potential Drawbacks: •Canvas material may be a concern for those who wish to or must have the bag hung outdoors (e.g., mildew, mold). •Keep in mind you may spend more to fill and outfit your bag, if doing-it-yourself is not already an advantage. As normally recommended, I'd duct tape the bottom and the seams as a precautionary measure. First, the measurements of the bag are correct if the bag is laid flat. For me, finding out the actual dimensions of the bag was unappealing since I bought the bag with the said dimensions in mind. This leaves you with about 1.7 cubic inches of volume to pack the bag. I was unable to get the bag to above 30 lbs with clothing alone, so expect to fill it with other material if you want it heavier. I also decided to place carpet along the walls for padding and duct taped the bottom of carpet to help prevent the bottom from stretching or breaking apart. I did not particularly like the vinyl. Although there is nothing particularly wrong with it, I am sensitive to particular smells of synthetic material, which this one was one. The zipper is located across the diameter of the top, therefore stuffing and unstuffing the bag is a minor exercise of tedium. I have not had any problems with the zipper. I am uncertain of what the chains are rated for, but if you are extra safety conscious, I'd consider investing in additional hardware (I did not do this).
