## Description

Astronomy for Kids: How to Explore Outer Space with Binoculars, a Telescope, or Just Your Eyes! : Betts, Bruce: desertcart.in: Books

Review: Great book for youth just getting into astronomy. Lots of cool pics and good info.
Review: I was looking for an intro to astronomy for my then 6-year-old son, and this book seemed to be worth a shot. Having now owned the book for a couple of years: „Astronomy for Kids“ delivers exactly what I have hoped that a title like this would deliver: a kid-friendly intro to (amateur) astronomy, including the basics about telescopes and astronomical objects, but mainly focusing on actual objects kids and adults can observe with their naked eyes, a pair of binoculars or a telescope. Those are also the three categories that make up the main sections of the book, with objects like the Pleiades or Orion in the „naked eye“ section, the Andromeda Galaxy in the „binoculars“ section and the whirlpool galaxy in the telescope section. This gives kids a feel for what can and can‘t be viewed well with whatever equipment they have. There are a lot of naked eye objects out there for those with no special optical equipment! I really appreciate that the book focuses on practical, actually observable objects. Astronomy is amazing, but it can feel a bit remote sometimes when reading about unimaginably large and distant objects. With this book, you find out about objects you can actually go out and view with your kids with fairly minimal equipment. Betts does a good job with the text, keeping it readable for a 7-8 year-old while also making it interesting enough to make sure kids want to read it. Every object has a „that‘s so cool“ box with fun or especially interesting tidbits about that object. I am completely satisfied with this book. It‘s helped kindle an interest in astronomy in my oldest son, so that we can share this awesome hobby in the coming years.
