The final season of "The Untouchables".This show had one of the longest shelf- life's of any series despite being shot in black and white,which only lends to it's authentic feel to that era. Apart from the Capone episodes all other stories concerning the Untouchables are inaccurate and fictitious,although,the characters portrayed in most episodes were real. Robert Stack was perfectly cast as Eliot Ness and is the best version portrayed by any actor.Plenty of action in this series. I believe that the show was cancelled not by falling ratings but by lobbyists complaining about the amount of violence on T.V. Well this was about gangsters of the prohibition era.What did they expect. Many well known actor's had early roles in this series like Jack Lord, James MacArthur, Clu Gulager, Telly Savalas, Peter Falk,Cameron Mitchell even Barbara Stanwyck who was a big movie star at the time appeared in two episodes which can be seen in this season. It was a stroke of genius to have Walter Winchell,who was a news reporter in the thirties, narrate the series.It gave the show a sense of realism.The masterful musical theme set the mood for this series and takes me back to when I was a child sitting on my father's lap watching this show. This is a great,great,great show.
