Review: Actually quite good - I have given 5 stars because for the price its great! The x20 is great for looking at coins and stamps to see all the detail without losing perspective of what it is you are actually looking at. The x400 is quite amazing and your persepective will definately be lost as that cottonwool bud resembles lots of strands in a meanigless spaghetti of others strands. Its x20 OR x400 nothing inbetween and I just wish there was the inbetween magnifications. Also it is a pain going from x20 to x400 as you have to keep swizzeling the focus wheel from one extreme to the other...about 6 good turns on it. x400 is very powerful though and beats the competition hands down who "only" offer x80 x100 x150 or x200 on most other scopes. x400 is very impressive and you can see the individual fibres of a piece of cloth, a human hair looks like a telegraph pole and that minute ball on the nib of a biro pen looks like a full sized UFO ! no kidding ! at x400 you can easily measure something that it say 20 microns which is 20 thousandth of a milimeter across, ...yes I said 1000th's of a milimeter!!! not 1000ths of an inch, a 1000th/inch would be way too big, I'm talking like a microbes of dust and with clarity here! At x400 magnification you have to keep everything still as the slightest movement of the scope or a slight nudge on the subject will throw it out of view. It will take practise to zoom in on something at that magnification as its the very gentlest of touches. The metal angle-poise base could be a little heavier as the scope will tip over at extremes but no problem at all if you keep the scope closer to the base when extending it. The integral lights( 8 LED's) that shine onto the subject is a great feature, it can be dimmed or made very bright by turning a little wheel, this is great as you need maximum brightness at x400 magnification and less light at x20. And it all works by plugging it into your USB socket, installing software off the mini CD, clicking on the desktop icon and away you go. You can also take photos and video of what it is your looking at as its a microscopic video/still camera as well with about 5cm total viewing range...lol...so forget videoing anything but those microbes! So to summarize if you want to have a lots and lots of fun looking at things very very close, which is why you want a microscope in the first place then its only fair to say that it does exactly what is says on the tin ! For the small price of this relatively high tech scientific electronic USB microscope which is a modern marvel I mean come on! I gave it 5 stars as I think its worth every penny.
Review: or do fine pitch soldering - First of all - this microscope is not 20-400x. It is 20x AND 400x. It will not focus at all between those distances. Depending on your use case, that may be less than ideal. I bought it for soldering and general electronics work - I am a repairman and sometimes have to work with incredibly small components, or do fine pitch soldering. At 20x, it is perfectly usable - it will focus at a reasonable distance - I usually use it about 5-15CM away from the piece I'm working on, with the display running through a Raspberry PI to a TV on my repair bench. At 400x, it is unusable for my use case, unfortunately. While it is useful to see things up close - the microscope pretty much has to be on top of them. There is no room for tools or anything below it. I have attached some pictures of a few corroded contacts on an Atari Jaguar CPU. The pins in the image are approx 0.5MM apart, maybe a little more or less. The image quality is decent enough - it feels like a fairly cheap webcam sensor has been used in the scope, to be honest. It could be better, but this is at the budget end of USB microscopes with an actual brand name on them. The LED ring is alright - bright enough to light whatever you're working on. The three things that really let down this microscope are - One, the focussing - 20x and 400x is a big jump. 20/50/100/200 would probably have been perfect. Two, the stand. It is metal.. ish, but it doesn't weigh very much. It doesn't provide a brilliantly stable platform for the microscope - and one of the bits that actually clips to the microscope has broken off mine, although I've had it for over a year. Three, the focussing wheel. This really needed to be either on a wireless remote, or a remote attached to the USB cable itself - or at very least, not as stiff as it is. It is almost impossible to not move the microscope while you are trying to focus it, so you spend a long time at 400x looking for whatever you wanted to see. It is a decent enough device when you actually get it to focus; the picture quality isn't too bad, and it can be used under Windows, Linux, and Raspbian on Raspberry Pi easily enough - but if you need a decent microscope, go for something more expensive. If you want to look at salt crystals or show bits of fabric to your kids, this thing is amazing.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An excellent product for the price.
*by J***S on 18 July 2014*

This is an excellent product. For a small price you get an easy-to-use device which produces good, clear images which will stand a certain amount of enlargement in printing. Remember, this is a tiny fraction of the cost of a digital camera macro set-up for similar magnification, and an even tinier fraction of the cost of professional lab-standard equipment: for what you pay, it is excellent. I had one of these years ago, but it was no longer compatible with modern operating systems, so I replaced it. I tried a rival, which looked like it had a good spec., but was so disappointed I returned it and went back to Veho, with no regrets. I like to photograph live insects and other mini-beasts without harming them, and apart from the very fastest moving ones, you can do this effectively, before releasing them back to their environment, at 20x. 200x is good for plant surfaces etc. but obviously the depth of field and proximity means that this is almost impossible for moving objects (as other reviewers have noted, this is a result of the laws of physics not a fault with the device!). As a hobby, for producing some very nice images, or recording biodiversity in your backyard, or just enjoying a creative, non-harmful interaction with nature, this is a great product. I might purchase a macro-SLR set-up one day, but for now, with a busy life and other expenses, this is a superb, easy-to-use hobby item which I very much enjoy.
