Basically, if you are changing connections while still working, you need to go to the source and shut the water off, connect to another object, then go back to turn the water on. Otherwise, the water will just gush out as soon as you disconnect them. Basic plastic quick connects usually have a pressure valve so when you unplug the end, water will not rush out. I still kept this because the y adapter is useful and felt that returning them for the price I paid wasn't worth the time. I decided on buying cheaper plastic quick connects that include an external turn valve on the female connectors so I wouldn't have to fight the water pressure from the internal valve when plugging in another male end.Also, galvanic corrosion (I think that's the term) occurred between the end of the hose and the connect after just a couple days of having the female end attached. I've had no problem interchanging the brass and aluminum parts. I have noticed that the aluminum parts have more corrosion after our fairly heavy use. The female part seems to stick and is sometimes hard to close because of this corrosion. I've been using plastic equivalents for years, and wanted to try something more durable.
