She starts off as little more than a sexy dark lady, in the same vein as Morrigan in Dragon Age: Origins. She's fun, sure, and she's kinky, but there's not a whole lot to her.Then you get through and learn all this stuff about her and... Whoa. The author really makes you feel for her, how she's been denied her happiness at every turn. She's an immortal vampire powered by blood and sex, with a killer bod and all kinds of magic powers, and she's still a tragic character. Goes to show what matters most in life, you know?Which is why it's a shame that we spend most of the book elsewhere. The actual adventure is little more than a glorified errand, where the character's emotional investment isn't nearly as strong as in Books 1 and 3. Here, it's a business deal: Rothan needs something, Tiloshar needs something, and the emotional resonance of Tiloshar's tragedy doesn't get invoked until AFTER the journey is complete. No amount of succubi or harpy people or Outland-inspired planes could make the middle feel less hollow.Sure, the other characters have goals, investment, backgrounds, all that jazz, but they aren't nearly as engrossing or engaging as Tiloshar. If Frazetta found a way to involve her more in this story, or devoted an equal amount of effort into making the rest of the cast as sympathetic, this could've earned 5 stars. Once again Mr Frazetta does an excellent job. I don't read books to be a critic. After all, a critic is nothing but man who is jealous that he is incapable of doing the same thing, yet, somehow thinks he can talk about it. Having said that, I read books to be entertained and the Wolfblade series is definitely entertaining. The floating island concept is pretty cool but I liked the white tear, black tear concept also. Sure hope Rothan finds a way to hook up with his 2 girls again and find a way back to black tear. The adult stuff is erotic but certainly not overwhelmingly a part of the novel. I like the characters and I'm worried someone's gonna die. Sure hope not.
