Child in Time was the first album by Ian Gillan after his departure from Deep Purple in 1973. The Ian Gillan Band comprised Ian Gillan himself, Ray Fenwick (guitar), John Gustafson (bass), Mike Mornan (keyboards), and Mark Nauseef (drums). Released in July 1976, it reached 55 in the UK album chart and shows the band pursuing a jazz rock direction. The title track is an amazing reworking of the Deep Purple classics from Deep Purple in Rock. The languorous 'Let It Slide, almost 12 minutes in length, gives the band the opportunity to showcase their skills. Seven tracks. What we didn't know was that he was actually doing some really cool, experimental things. This was the very first. While not being the best of his "Lost Years" period, this is still interesting enough for your attention. Taking a Jazz-Rock approach, this is a more subdued affair as a whole and it gives you a new appreciation for the man and his work. I admit, the more aptly titled band GILLAN, which would spin off from this collective was by far the better group with better material, this is still worth checking out. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazon's Track Listing for this Album is Wrong! *by G***T on Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2010* If anyone wondered what happened to Ian Gillan after he left Deep Purple - this classic rock album shows Gillan in fine vocal form with musical chops. To Gillan's credit, he took off in a more intelligent prog-rock direction.There are some amazing Gillan era screams but more importantly good music.
