Since 99% of the quilts I make are made to be used by humans, I almost always wash them. I had a dye bleed scare recently on one of them after a wash and this was suggested as a solution/preventative to dye bleed. So far so good - it fixed my initial issue and now the first washing of any finished quilt gets this treatment.
