A: Hi tellfile and everyone else concerned about "non-stick" coatings (aka Teflon). To answer your question about the safety of Teflon, the answer is that Teflon is safe to use WITH MANY CAVEATS (do not exceed temperatures of 500 maybe as low as 325, do not chip the teflon, do not inhale the fumes produced, do not wash wish any abrasive cleaning products, and the list goes on). To answer Michael R's assertion that, "Short answer : it's safe", I will quote directly from the article he linked to :"Just how safe are nonstick pots and pans? The answer is a qualified one...They're safe, as long as they're not overheated. When they are, the coating may begin to break down (at the molecular level, so you wouldn't necessarily see it), and toxic particles and gases, some of them carcinogenic, can be released."

**Q: How do you clean this?**
A: Unplug and let it cool for 10-15 minutes. Place a wet paper towel over the surface. Close the lid. Wait 20-30 minutes. Open and wipe clean.
