This amp is definitely an upgrade. It is seemingly just as powerful and though it has no active EQ, the range of tones you can achieve with the PF-500 is very wide. This combo is also about 30 pounds lighter than the BA500 and if you're willing to make 2 trips to carry the speaker and amp separately, the thing is as light as a feather. With the amp attached however - though relatively light - this rig would hugely benefit from having side handles instead of the single handle on top. Also, the midrange frequency selector seems to have very little effect on the overall tone unless you're blasting the mids.All in all - well worth the money. Great ampeg sound, super portable, stylish, and stackable. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ love ampeg *by R***M on Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2013* I had an ampeg 2x10 several years ago and loved it, but left it behind when I moved. I always regretted that, so when getting back into playing I went ampeg again. I've had others as well, but I have had no complaints with my ampeg equip, and this one holds up to expectations. The flip top is very handy. You can add on later if you get another cab and daisy chain the inputs, but this guy is more than enough power for what I'm doing. This amp effectively sounds like a tube amp. IT's a little heavy, but that is because it is built very well (solid wood, heavy speakers). It does run a fan all the time, but it is not bad.
