### ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Not as exciting as previous volume (Visitor Arc, Part I)

Volume 10 is the second part of a 3 part series for the Visitor Arc. When the most powerful magician in USNA comes to investigate Tatsuya, we KNOW this will lead to big conflicts with him. The problem is that the author had squeezed so much action into the previous book that this next volume was relatively boring in comparison. This book focuses more on the mystery of the parasites (aka vampires) and their origins. Mr. Sato offers a very intriguing theory which, in his usual long-winded style, makes some sense. If you're wondering why I rated this book 4 stars, it's not because this volume is boring. I have two reasons. First, the author ends this volume on a cliffhanger, which I really dislike (like many readers). Second, I think this volume has a serious and big plot hole. To explain it, let's run this scenario. Let's say a US military officer discovers the presence of a foreign soldier on US soil. They duke it out and the American captures the other soldier. A proper discharge of the American soldier's duties requires him to inform his superior officer and let the chain of command decide the fate of the foreign soldier. We have a similar situation when Tatsuya, a (not-so-secret) Japanese military officer, learns of Lina's real ID as a USNA mage, captures her, and simply lets her go without telling his chain of command. That's a HUGE plot hole, in my view. Also, some higher ups would consider that treason and jail him for it. Anyway, that's something I felt need to be raised.

    Entertaining read

Part 2 of the Visitor Arc starts were 1 ended. As Tatsuya gathers more information and unites at least the Japanese factions, various paths coincide in a big confrontation with a single vampire with unexpected results. Interspersed is some character development and humor during Valentine Day events and the chocolate giving tradition familiar to fans of Japanese High School stories. It is a solid continuation of the series with the same flaws and strengths. There was a bit more humor in this part which I liked. It was also a good opportunity for some character development. Am I odd in that I ship Mayumi (I find her personality extremely entertaining) even though I know that is extremely unlikely or I pity Honoka? The concept behind the vampires become more concrete and I like it, even if it raises the question on why such things did not happen earlier. Again, it makes a good story, but if the reader has to take some things at face value. Oddly enough, the author is clearly aware of some of the plot holes since even the main character is wondering about them. Personally I am not a fan of offering the points of view of others too often (and it was borderline for me in that regards), but it does add depth to especially Angelina and Erika. The book ends at a real cliffhanger, but at least I waited reading until the full arc was available for sale…

I have already preordered the next book. It does come out till March. Just a warning this books leaves you at a little bit of a cliff hanger😤
