Hands are measured from the center of the mounting hole of the minute hand to the tip of the minute hand. Specifications: The 718HT has a 5/16" diameter shaft. The threaded portion of the shaft is 11/16" and overall shaft length is 1-1/8". Good for dials up to 5/8" thick. These compact "AA" battery powered high torque movements were designed specifically for use with today's new larger clocks. They are the most powerful quartz movements on the market today, and they were designed to solve one of the primary assembly problems that confronts everyone making larger clocks-hour and minute hand spacing! All of the high torque movements on the market today share the same problem-they are just more powerful versions of regular movements designed to accommodate regular size hands. The new "HT" series movements were designed specifically for use with larger hands. The distance between where the hour and minute hands are installed has been increased! This increased distance will help to prevent longer hands from binding and leaves enough room to accommodate the counterweights that are commonly used on large minute hands. I attached this to a scrap piece of wood and ran the clock for a week. The minute hand does move slightly every second. If you are within 2-3 feet of the clock you can hear that movement. After doing a current draw test I estimate that the battery will last about 35 days. Of course, that will depend on your choice of batteries. My only issue is the way the hands were packaged. They were attached to a long piece of cardboard with rubber bands and the hands moved during shipment causing the minute hand to bang against the end of the box and bend. I hung them on my walls, and they look great. MANY people have come over and commented on how nice they look and I they do not look cheap.The clock keeps great time.The only (slight) complaint is the black box, as seen in the picture looks a little gaudy. But I believe that it is there to help you mount some sort of backing for the clock hands. We are choosing to not put a background to it, so it looks a little bit much. No one notices that part of it, and it really only bothers me every 100th time I look at it.Great product.
