I had to check the ambient temperature surrounding a refrigerator that was slid into a millwork cabinet. The manufacturer was worried that the unit would overheat because their was not enought airflow behing the unit. This unit comes with small magnets installed on the back side of it. I pulled the refrigerator out and stuck this to the back of the refrigerator then slid it back into place and let it run. The Hobo unit I got has to be connected to the computer with the cable provided, in order to get the temperature readouts. The directions on using it were not great but it was not to hard to figure out. You connect the unit to your computer and can set it up for how long you want to get readings and how often you want it to take the readings. In my case I set it up to takes readings every 15 minutes for 10 hours straight, so I could see with it running for a long period of time how hot it would get behind the unit. I came back the next day pull it out and connected it to my computer and it downloaded all the readings. There are several ways to view the information and share it. Great little device. Not very cheap but it does work great. There are more expensive models that will connect wirelessly or you can view the results right on the device.
