I have an issue with sand -- it's a texture thing and I don't like the feeling of it. I went on a vacation and knew I'd be miserable on the beach trying not to be bothered by the sand and I found these. It was amazing. I couldn't feel the texture of the sand and was able to walk around freely without my skin crawling. The only time any sand would get in them was while in the ocean jumping waves, which is understandable. I wore them for five days without any problems of tearing or ripping. They really work for hot sand -- I didn't feel the heat at all and didn't have to worry about hurting my feet on shells. I bought three pairs: black, beige, and navy with green lightning. The navy with green lightning are my favorite (more fun!) and the beige ones were more inconspicuous (still noticeable but didn't make my feet look weird). The black ones reminded me of dress socks. I wear a women's size 7.5 and bought a small -- they were a bit tight but I liked it that way and the medium was too big.
