It'll focus anywhere from an inch, to across the room. The 6 LEDs are fully adjustable. Of course the quality of your image will directly correspond to the quality of your PC or phone screen.I got the camera up and running quickly on my HP Elitebook laptop by downloading and using the Hiraliy software, from the link given in the item description here on Amazon. I connected the endoscope via usb to the laptop.It took some doing to get it going on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. When I connected the camera by the supplied USB C, nothing happened.I went into the developer mode on the phone, and enabled usb debugging and changed the usb port from charging, to transferring photos. I downloaded the Android Hiraliy software, as well as Camerafi, and other apps, but nothing worked.I tried it on my husband's Note 5, and the LEDs lit, but I didn't get an image, even with the correct software and usb debugging. I tried it on my old Note 4, and it worked great.So, I thought the problem was the USB C plug. I bought a USB to USB C adapter, and used it to plug the camera into the Note 8. Using the Hiraliy software, and setting the usb mode to transfer photo, instead of charging phone, the endoscope worked flawlessly.So, if you have a Galaxy Note 8, you need a USB to USB C adapter for this endoscope to work. I used a USB C to USB 3.0 (male to female compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 8) made by Benfei, with the reinforced joint and aluminum casing, found here on Amazon.Although I had issues getting it running on the Note 8, I went ahead and gave it 5 stars instead of 4, because the image quality is excellent. It has 5 megapixels, unlike any other camera at this price point on Amazon. It comes with 3 little tools that screw onto the end of the scope, as well as several cleaning brushes.I bought the endoscope to inspect the inside of guitars. I'm a luthier, and I make repairs and do restorations on old guitars. I will put the scope to good use.0update:I took photos with the endoscope on the PC from 2 distances. The photo of my finger, which shows my fingerprint ridges, was taken within 1" of the camera. The rocking chair was about 15 feet away. The camera captures at a low resolution of 96 pixels, but with large images. If you have the need for higher resolution photos, use photo editing software, and set the resolution as you want, then resize your photos. But, as you can see, the camera images are more than sufficient for inspecting small spaces. For the price of $16, the camera performs quite nicely.Also, on Windows PC's, the program which you will view and capture images from the endoscope is called ViewPlayCap, which is found in your program files, after you install and unzip the Hiralily file from their site. The packaging was a Prime bubble pack envelope. Based on the fact that it works for photographing my granddaughter, the OEM box and the envelope were enough to mitigate shipping damage. I bought this to inspect piping. I haven't tried it for that application yet. I'll leave an update.Video Play Cap software works okay. You'll need 7 zip, it's free, to download the software from the advertised website. I hope I can adjust the led intensity. It's pretty dim in an inverted mug.
