Review: excellent egg steamer - I have had this cooker for a year. I have had no issues with water boiling out or soft yolks. I do use the marks on the included cup even though its counterintuitive that you use less water for more eggs. I am at 800 feet above sea level, higher altitudes may have to adjust the amount of water. The little white pan is the perfect size to poach an egg for a breakfast sandwich. Make sure to spray with oil first. There have been comments about the buzzer being too loud. I dont know what they expect. Its about the same volume as an electric razor (sort of what it sounds like) and I can not hear it in the bedroom that is off the kitchen with the door open. I guess if you are in a studio apt it could be a problem. If you let it buzz for too long eventually it will cool down enough to start heating up again which will make it stop buzzing until it gets too hot again. The unit does not turn off until you switch it off. Dont leave it unattended for longer than a few minutes (like taking a shower). It has worked reliably. The buzzer still works. I do soak it with vinegar every few weeks. We have very hard water and it gets gunked up quickly. If you leave it with hard water deposits it will cook incorrectly and could boil out of the cooker. Some hints to get the perfect steamed egg. Make sure you poke the fat end of the egg or the whites will cook out. You dont need to smash the entire pin through the egg, just enough to make a hole. When the eggs are done cooking, remove the lid and leave them until the cool enough to touch, put them in an egg container marked hard boiled and let them cool in the fridge. If you cool them too quickly they will be not be cooked thoroughly. Also, soaking them in cold water will cause the cold water and bacteria to be pulled back through the shell causing a watery egg and they might not last as long. If your eggs are really fresh ( I have chickens) they will be difficult to peel. Keep the uncooked eggs a few more days before cooking and this will help.
Review: Excellent hard cooked eggs - I initially had some problems with the directions and understanding the water level markings, but they gave an email address for customer service, and the response was near instantaneous. The little water cup has a small pin on the bottom to make a little hole in each egg so they don't crack during cooking. Mine was wobbly, and the manufacturer quickly replaced it with a new one (priority mail) which works fine. It makes great hard cooked eggs in only a few minutes. I recommend using distilled water (as with any steam cooker) so residue doesn't build up. It holds a maximum of seven, but even with two batches, a dozen eggs cooks really quickly. It is very small, so it is easy to store and doesn't take up much counter space. I have been using it so much, I haven't put it away yet. In the last couple weeks, I have been making red-beet pickeled eggs, egg salad, and deviled eggs, because it is easy and lots of fun to do. (For whatever reason, I could never get the timing right on boiling the hard-cooked eggs.) It also is supposed to make soft and medium cooked eggs, but I have not tried that. You will know with they are done - the buzzer is loud. For the price, it works very well and I am happy with it and would definitely buy it again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have no numbers on the cup, just the 3 eggs with inner line and a vertical line labeled Hard, Medium, Soft. Clueless on how much water to use.**
A: My cup has no numbers as well! My first try I used the full 7 eggs. I filled the cup to the Hard boil line and put that water in the tray. Then decided to add a little more water. So I filled the cup to the soft boil line and added that water as well. The hard boiled eggs turned out great and peeled easy! I guess I'll have to experiment with how much water to use if I want to cook less eggs.

**Q: I lost the measuring cup. Can someone tell me how to measure in ounces or ml in my small glass beaker?**
A: Honestly I stopped using that measuring cup it came with after the second use. For my DBTech egg cooker, I have found that filling it with water just short of overflow works perfectly. With the measure cup, my eggs were not thoroughly hard boiled. So, adding water was required. Just full it with water but, don't overflow it. Hope this helps!

**Q: What size eggs can be used? I always boil "LARGE SIZE. Pls adv**
A: Yes. I always use large size eggs. One tip I learned through trial and error though is that you want to cool the eggs after cooking at room temperature. Don't chill them immediately to stop the cooking or they will be underdone.

**Q: How easy is it to lift the tray of eggs from the steamer? I am looking at it for an 84 year old with some dexterity and balance issues.**
A: Hello Susan... I was just eating an egg made from the unit in question for lunch; it was a perfect hardboiled egg. The user needs to be careful right after the unit has shut off. The temperatures exceed 200 degrees and can scald one if not careful. If you let the appliance stand for a while after finishing the temperatures becomes very manageable. The handle on the unit which holds the eggs is small. My suggestion to you, when using this appliance by an elderly person, is to place a bowl of cold water right next to the unit so that when the eggs are finished the rack can be lifted and placed in the water. This will allow the eggs to cool quickly and be easier to remove the shells. And secondly, allow for the bowl to be used to move the eggs around easily alleviating the need to worry about the small handles on the rack. The heating element base area tends to discolor due to minerals in the water. I pour very hot water in the unit and let it stand for a short time when cleaning it. I then pour out the water and scour the deposits with an abrasive sponge. The stain comes off very easily this way. I just thought I'd pass along this little tidbit of information. Also, when punching a hole in the egg to let out excessive steam so they do not explode do this to the larger side of the egg. Instructions call for the smaller side, but the other side works better. Lastly, add two lines more water to the unit (to what the instructions call for) for 7 hard boiled eggs. The system seems to need a little extra time steaming for perfect eggs... and they do come out perfect. I hope I have been helpful to you.

### ⭐⭐⭐ It works fine but the water measuring device is backwards on the ...
*by D***N on September 15, 2014*

It works fine but the water measuring device is backwards on the numbers!!!!!. Instead of the 1 being at the bottom to count the water as you are measuring for the amount of eggs you are cooking, the 1 is at the top and the 6&7 is at the bottom. Thus the measurement device is not measuring the water as the water goes in. When the water is measured the number lower should start at 1 and the 2 going up and so forth. Instead the number coming first is 6&7. If you cook the eggs with the water measurement at 6&7 you will get eggs that are not cooked. So you need to bring the water up to the number 1 printed on the water measurement tube to cook 6&7 eggs. It's a defect but not worth returning as you can still cook the eggs but it's a bother if you cook less eggs. Also, the directions do not explain to you how to cook poached eggs. Experimenting is needed to get it just right. But the good thing is that the water does not boil over onto the cabinet top like my other egg cookers did. I had to place a towel under those egg cookers to soak up the boiling water as the eggs cooked.
