I mixed up a new batch of coolant (Hangsterfer's 5080) at 6% concentration, via graduated containers and some math. I calibrated the meter (zeroed with the water I used for the batch), then put 3 drops of mixed coolant on the prism, and clearly read the correct value. This type of coolant has a Correction Factor of 2X, meaning, whatever a refractometer displays, multiply times 2. The meter displayed 3%, so multiplying times 2 = 6%... spot on. If you play around with the angle your light source is coming from, the line/reading becomes super clear. For modern CNC coolants, the needed range caps at about 12%, so I like the 0-18% range, which makes the lower numbers larger and easier to read, compared to a 0-32% scale.Also, I liked the kit, and the case. The case has what's called 'living hinges' which last far longer than the cheap bending creases you normally see on cheap plastic cases, which always tear eventually, especially if cold.
