I previously purchased the less expensive ones and they lasted 3 or 4 years until they started getting some small holes in the bottom. Due to the weather I ride in I wasn't surprised. I decided to buy these upgraded bags because of the flaps that cover the sides over the opening, in order to prevent weather and sediment from getting in. I have a Softail Nightrain and these bags fit perfectly. They look good, not great but honestly not bad at all. When you receive them in the package you will think they look cheap and like plastic, once you put them on the bike and they wear down a bit they look good and for the price you can't get a bigger or better bag. I didn't use brackets, I just had to make more holes on the part that holds them together and I tied them to the frame. I recommend them and I will continue to buy from Jafrum unless I come in to a lot of money in which case I'll spend a few hundred on some really nice bags. These bags also have a hard plastic lining which prevents the holes i mentioned from appearing in my last bags from affecting the effectiveness of the bags, it also helps keep it's form. The leather is very hard, and I would call it more ofa leather veneer, than actual leather. It feels like a box, not a bag.Second, they are a lot bigger than I anticipated! That's not a bad thing, I was just surprised.They actually are a little bit bigger than I wanted, and almost don't fit on my Kawasaki Vulcan 800.They do work, but they just push against the rear turn signals a bit. Not a deal breaker.Because they are so big, they hold a ton of stuff! I can fit a change of clothes, shoes and my lunchinto just one bag! I can finally pick up milk and bread on my ride home when my wife needs me to!Now I mentioned that these seem cheesey, but they do seem to be sturdy. They are harder than I expectedthem to be, but that's also not a bad thing. They hold they're form, and I don't have supports hooked up yet,so the rigidity seems to help keep them in place.They have two fastening strings made of leather to attach to supports (or in my case, just the frame of the bike).I would have liked to see something better than just a piece of leather rope to tie, but they didn't come off on my rideinto work today, and I was on the highway doing speeds close to 75MPH.I plan to put my supports on tonight and get these set up properly, but I was just really excited to get these on the bikeand not have to wear a backpack riding my cruiser.So all in all, I think these are decent bags for the price! They're big, seem pretty well made, but again are more plasticfeeling than actual leather. But I did kind of expect that at this price point.So know what you're getting rather than thinking you're going to get super nice leather bags for $60.UPDATE - 07/27/13I've been blessed with about ten clear days here, and that meant ten days of riding.I'm still lovin' these bags!They are holding up great, still look new, and are holding their shape.I've done mostly country driving, but a few trips on the highway and they do great.Still not attached to supports and they haven't moved.
