This thing is amazing. HUGE! it is very heavy. It weighs every bit of 30 to 40 lbs. Also it comes with a stand. They didn't mention that in the listing. The stand is kind of cheap looking but it is doing the job. The stand that I bought separately for it would splinter under this things weight. It seems to be perfectly clear and free of flaws. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Truly beautiful--but definitely NOT quartz. *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2015* I purchased one of these items, relying the advertisement that this was indeed truly pure quartz. I needed it to be quartz for the transparency in the UV spectral region. I am a chemistry professor at Syracuse University, wishing to adapt the crystal ball for a UV photoreaction vessel. Since my plan was to have our machine shop drill a 1" hole into a small region of the ball anyway, I had them start with a smaller core drilling. This enabled me, and our department's scientific glassblower, to perform some tests on the core sample. These prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this is not "quartz". It has a much lower melting point than glass made of pure quartz (silica). After having the glassblower melt a portion of the core to a flat piece, on which I could perform spectrophotometry, I can also state that the UV transparency of this material extends only to about 350 nm, not down to below 250 nm as would be expected for quartz. The product description is therefore blatantly false, in a way that was really quite important to me, and might be important to others. You cannot expect this ball to have the hardness, the high melting temperature, the refractive index, or other optical properties of pure quartz. Having said that, I can nevertheless endorse many other aspects of the quality of the glass ball. In the visible region of the spectrum, this ball is very transparent, colorless, and without perceptible flaw. The surface is polished beautifully, and the ball is perfectly round. It is indeed an esthetically extremely pleasing "200-mm crystal ball". Even with the small hole that I have had drilled into its bottom, it will make a beautiful display piece, and possibly a set prop for one of the community theater productions my family members are often involved in. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars I'm off to see the Wizard.... *by S***T on Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2014* I've periodically looked around for a crystal ball. A BIG one. Ever since seeing the Wizard of Oz as a little girl I wanted a crystal ball. Unfortunately I've never seen any large ones in a price range Recently I started looking again & found some 150mm ones on Ebay but when I saw this 200mm one on Amazon & the fact this particular was shipped from the US & that this one had such great reviews & it was under $100 ......well, of course I bought it!Customer Services: I had a question while waiting for it to arrive & the seller answered the same day. Because the price was so exceptional I wanted to know if it was a true "crystal" ball (100% natural quartz) or a mix of leaded crystal glass & reconstituted natural quartz crystal which has been crushed, heated & reformed into a crystal ball. I was told, anyway, that this is 100% natural quartz and I can only hope I was told the truth. It does seem hard to believe given the price but I wouldn't know how to confirm or deny the info provided by the seller. Since my email & all my questions were answered quickly I would give them high marks for customer services.Shipping: The item was packed pretty well, honestly due to the weight I think it wouldn't hurt to get more protection around it. It came in a thinner cardboard box with some pieces of bubble-wrap shoved in around it. The box was tearing open down one side. This box was then put inside a cardboard box. Altho there was no damage to the crystal ball, it just seems risky to me to send it off with such minimal protection. It arrived on the 21st, one week after ordering it & we had weekends, storms & a holiday so ship time was better than expected.Misc: I didn't catch that it came with a stand so that was a nice surprise. Nothing fancy; a cherry color wood oriental looking base. (I think it was shown with a clear stand) I do want to find something different & taller to showcase it but for now this will be fine.The Ball: I just opened it up and I am THRILLED!!! I don't see any flaws & its freekin HUGE! - Yes you know the size when you order but it is very impressive when you see it in real life. I am really happy & would comfortably be able to recommend this purchase to anyone. You might be able to get it direct from overseas yourself for a little less but if you did order overseas & there was an issue returning it could just be a real pain.Performance: I know that one guy was having some problems getting his ball to work but I guess this is an upgrade and all the "glitches" have been fixed.:) I'll just be happy if I look into and see my own back yard, after all….
