The silicone is thick enough that it provides cushioning from even substantial falls, and the raised bezel on the front and around the camera should provide protection even from a flat fall front or back. Well ventilated to prevent overheating, and cutouts allow full dynamic speaker range. Ports are exposed for easy access, but the case covers the volume and on/off buttons, and the SD card door, adding an extra layer of protection for them. The pen holder is part of the molded back of the case, and provides convenient storage for the S pen, and if you're not a pen user it's out of the way and unobtrusive. It comes in black, blue, green, red (actually hot pink), turquoise and orange, so enough colors to match most tastes. The silicone case is completely waterproof, but it doesn't of course make your tablet waterproof, nor is it suitable for submersion.The (minor) downsides - the silicone is very easy to clean with a damp cloth, but it also attracts dust, lint and animal dander easier than a hard plastic case. Just the nature of the beast. It also isn't designed to cover the screen, so I definitely recommend a tempered glass screen protector to protect from scratches and dings - there are armored cases with built-in screen protectors and covers, but my experience has been that these built-in screen protectors are inferior to those you purchase and add yourself. That said, the screen is exposed and will get more fingerprints carrying and take more abuse in your backpack or briefcase versus a folio-type case. And this particular case has an odd, semi-circular cutout, with a peculiar notch in it over the front camera that appears to be completely unnecessary, but doesn't detract from function and in fact may have some purpose that is not immediately apparent. None of these enough to downgrade the rating, but just observed quirks of this design.In summary, a solid, well designed, durable case that provides good semi-armored drop and shock protection for your pricey Samsung tablet, and one of the best open-face styled cases I've used. There is no sagging in back as mentioned in reviews of other similar cases. It provides nice handholds for what can otherwise be a slippery tablet and the bumpers protect the tablet. I like the pen holder and find I can prop up the tablet by hooking the holder over something. I didn't want a cover with a magnet closure that might interfere with the working of the pen.
