That said, I nearly messed up my serving trying to fit these over the end loop but they slid on nicely the rest of the way. For clarification, I put them on my 16 strand recurve string. First I thoroughly waxed the string. Then I hooked the cotter pin over one end of the string. Then I threaded on the first rubber bit right up to the thickest part of the serving, barely exposing the end loop, holding the pin with pliers to get better leverage. Then I was stuck, unable to move the rubber any further by hand or get a good grip on it with pliers and risking the integrity of my serving against the edge of the pin. Next I removed the pin and threaded it through the rubber piece itself, then set the barely exposed end of my string around a cabinet knob. Then it was just a matter of grabbing the pin with the pliers and using it to pull the rubber down the rest of the way and unhooking the pin from the rubber. Same procedure for the next piece.
