Still distilling 2 gallons a day. Had one issue which was that dust built up on the cooling coils. The water was coming out warm, even hot, instead of more room temperature. The company was very helpful responding to questions as to why this was happening. Took the top and backside panels off. Gave it a good cleaning with compressed air and it was back up an running with no problem! I have no doubt this unit will run for at least 5 more years (with the occasional dust cleaning). UPDATE: 3/31/17 The unit is still running like a champ! Not a single problem. Still distilling 2 gallons a day without trouble. Only modification I did was add a tube from the drain spout to run into the sink. There was a couple times that I thought the valve was closed completely and it was not, water all over the counter. My fault, not the machine. Although this is the only distiller I have owned, it is a great product. I did my research before buying it. I have had no trouble with it and have used for a few months. I distill 2 gallons a day. It distills almost 1 gallon at a time. I do not wait for it too cool down to refill. I am just careful of the steam when I am opening it. The water is exactly what is should be. No taste, no nothing at all! I use white vinegar to clean the distiller. I use vinegar full strength up to the heating elements overnight, then fill the rest of it with water (with the vinegar still in) and let it sit for a few hours. We have very hard well water and the deposits build up pretty thick on the heating elements, but it comes out sparkling clean. I clean it about 2 weeks. I've been drinking distilled for years, and decided it was time to stop buying it and just make it myself. So I bought this one, unpacking was great. It came pre-tested from the factory, so there was a small water line in the boiler chamber. This was all mentioned in the documentation. It was clear to setup and sterilize for the first time. The first batch needs to be tossed out, as per the instructions. The second batch I had a nice big cup of. Its important when drinking to drink at room temperature to experience the full effect. Drinking ice cold water numbs the mouth, and you sometimes miss any aftertaste or undissolved solids in water. I was pleased this distiller had none of those. It tasted crisp, smooth, and tasteless, just the way quality water should. If you're buying a distiller for home, this is the one to buy. Only recommendation I would make is make sure to buy additional water jars (always glass). It shuts off automatically when the water in the tank is distilled. Since you cannot fill the boiling tank with more water than will fit in the jug, you will not have over flow **Q: One of the reviews mentions chloramine filtration. Does this mean that the distillation process itself does not eliminate chloramine?** A: I can't say for sure if it eliminates chloramine or not, but I tested the water with a parts per million tester and it comes up between 0-3 parts per million after distillation is completed. Average tap water is 100-400 parts per million. Hope this helps. **Q: Is the catch bottle glass and is the lid to the jar BPA free? Why the need for a filter?** A: The jar is glass so it is indeed BPA-free. You need a filter for the chloramine, which distillation does not remove. But the question remains as to if the small filter provided is large/extensive enough to do the job. My understanding is it takes a pretty extensive filter to remove chloramine. Also, people should be warned NOT to run this in an unventilated area as distillation emits some toxic fumes. Best to run it in the garage or somewhere well ventilated. **Q: How does user fill the distiller with water? How is the fill port sealed to prevent steam escaping?** A: The top of the unit has a lid that comes off. There is a gasket that prevents the steam from escaping. Essentially, there is a nut that is teck welded to the lid. There is a bolt that goes though and allows you to tighten the lid. I make it so it is just snug - not need to deform the gasket since there is not that much steam pressure. To fill it, I actually boil water in a tea pot and pour the boiling water in the unit. I have a gas stove and it is less expensive to heat water with gas than electric. You can put in tap water and it will boil it for you. Not!! The first year the Heating Element burst. After contacting the factory they informed me it would cost me $50 for the part. I received a defective part. After much back and forth futility with the factory I sent my unit back and they sent me a bent one, but it worked. Till recently...and the problem is? A bad Heating Element...I know...Cha Ching. $50 Now I'm faced with going through this grueling banter with customer service or taking my chances on a competitors product.
