They help with a bit of light where there had been shadow before.The downsides, in my opinion and circumstances: they could be a little brighter. They are not bad, but a bit more light wouldn't hurt. I guess for the price, they are fine. The extension cord is a bit short for me to dress it up neatly. It has to hang down between two cabinets on either side of the stove, hanging behind the stove, but still visible. My final complaint has to do with the on/off switch. There isn't really a nice way to mount it.
